Hi Mr.mockingbird,
A uniform, a unit. Just think of how the words are pronounced. If the initial sound is a consonant sound, say 'a'. If it's a vowel sound, say 'an'.

Hi Mr. Mockingbird,
As englishuser said if there are some vowels word in first letter then you have to use an.other wise if there are conssonant wod in fisdt letter you have to use a.
vowels sound are:( a,e, i,o,u)
For example: an old- an unit- an uniform
a letter you use it for other letters such us: a bird- a teacher- a day.
That's different between a & an
I hope you understand from me.
Thank you for asking

Hi,
Before uniform an will come, reason is U is an vowel and pronounced like U only.
Same as with unit.
Therefore AN will be placed before UNIFORM & UNIT.
Thanks

According to me this is not true. "A" can come before both of the words. As they pronounced from "U". And before it we can't put "an".

As a native English user, I am used to saying "a uniform." The general rule is to say "a" before a vowel sound. I would say "an apple," "an auto," "an elephant," "an egg," "an icon," "an igloo," "an octopus," "an orange," "an umbrella," but, for some reason, "a uniform." For me, the same is true for words that start with "y" and have the same sound as long "u." English is weird that way. I am sure there is a rule for that, but I don't know it.
